Inside these pages is a text written by Claire Dean, which will take you on an historical, ecological, cartographical and fantastical journey along the River Lune in Lancashire and Cumbria, England.

The text sits alongside photographs a three metre textile (pictured in miniature in the centrefold) handmade from recycled materials by a team of activist stitchers called The Sewing Café Lancaster.

When Claire was writing the story, she said: ‘I spent a long time early on in this project searching for the perfect map  a map that would contain the whole river from source to sea: a map that would help me hold the shape of the river in my head, so that I could begin to write about it.’

She never found that map, but it. now exists, in part, as the story that follows and as the textile represented in this little book’s centrefold.

So, this is an imaginative snapshot of the River Lune from this time, this place, and the extraordinary creative team that made this project: Stan’s Cafe and Lancaster Arts, in collaboration with The Sewing Café Lancaster, writer Claire Dean and performer Orla Cottingham.
