Wonderful poems have been written about rivers, from William Blake’s ‘London’ (‘I wander thro’ each charter’d street,/ Near where the charter’d Thames does flow’) to Alice Oswald’s ‘Dart’ (‘I find you in the reeds, a trickle coming out of a bank, a foal of a river’).
