‘I believe children’s books are the most important books of all’ – S.F. Said, when Tyger was nominated as children’s book of the month by both Waterstones and Foyles in September 2023.

When we read, each of us has our own personal responses to stories and characters. Sharing those reactions and responses with each other is inspiring, fascinating and great fun!

For this year’s Big Read, Litfest invites readers young and old to join us in sharing an extraordinary novel, Tyger, written by S.F. Said and illustrated by Dave McKean. The book is set in an alternative timeline where the Empire is still active, where imagination and creativity are superpowers, and where there is the most incredible underground library!

We invite individuals, families, schools and reading groups to come together and share in reading this book. When you register below, you will automatically be entered for a prize draw on 30 April, when our Big Read author will pick three names out of a hat to win three paperback books of their choice!

Not sure if you want to take up the challenge? Why not come to the Big Read event (in person or online) to hear S.F. Said read from and talk about his prizewinning book first? Click here to find out more.
